Bengaluru-based technology company Tata Elxsi Ltd, part of the diversified Tata Group, said on Monday it is developing a smart gateway module for Chinese automaker GAC Motor.

The module will feature in the new range of electric vehicles that GAC Motor expects to launch in the second half of 2020, Tata Elxsi said in a statement.

The module will be compliant with the automotive open system architecture and will be tested at GAC’s research and development centre.

The module consists of multiple controller area networks as well as ethernet and local interconnect network channels. It will act as the communication centre to control inter-bus communications between various electronic control units such as advance driver assistance systems, in-vehicle infotainment system, battery management system and heads-up display cluster.

Tata Elxsi works with various global automotive original equipment manufacturers, suppliers and chip vendors in system and software development for the next generation of intelligent, autonomous and electric vehicles. Some of its clients include the likes of Ford, Jaguar Land Rover, Isuzu, Nissan, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra.

Last week, Mumbai-based Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the Tata Group’s main technology services company, had said that it was updating its MasterCraft Transform Plus to version 4.0 by adding new cognitive features for analysis and modernization of legacy application.
